Who is WW-P SKSP?

We are residents of West Windsor-Plainsboro with children or young adults who have a medical diagnosis that impacts our lives. As a very diverse parent support group, we have parents in various stages in the journey; recent diagnosis, children in transition, adolescence and young adults, and children attending in district schools and out of district schools. Our members deal with many different diagnosis; Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, Dyslexia, Epilepsy, Apraxia, Rhett’s Syndrome, Blindness, CP, Downs Syndrome, William’s Syndrome, Jorbette’s Syndrome, Bipolar Disorder, and CAPD, to name a few. Although the diagnosis may be different, we often share similar challenges, and we all want to participate in the WW-P community.

Why do we exist?

How often have you thought, if only I could talk to somebody else, “in the same boat”? That person would become a friend and a life line because they truly understand. Everyone in WW-P SKSP brings their own special talents to the group. As WW-P community members, we share our knowledge and emotional support.

What we do?

WW-P Special Kids Special Parents has monthly evening meetings held at the West Windsor library or the Plainsboro Municipal building. Most meetings have a topic speaker and some time set aside for open discussion. Some past topics have included; Pharmacology, Sibling Issues, IEP’s and Social Skills.

We have daytime informal discussion groups for members to share information on specific therapies they have tried, for example biomedical treatments and RDI.

Our social events help strengthen our community as families and have included a summer barbeque and holiday party.

Our listserv enables our members to share questions and knowledge through email as often as they wish

Building collaborative relationships throughout the community, we have helped develop many successful recreation programs for our families.

Finally we are always working on something new to help foster a better understanding of who we are and enable our families to fully participate in West Windsor-Plainsboro life.

If you have a child who receives special education services and you live in the West Windsor-Plainsboro zoned area, and you are interested in joining our group, please use the contact form in the menu above to send us an email.
